Meet the litchi

The taste of litchi fruit is pleasant and refreshing, with bright sweet and sour notes

Lychee's homeland is China, where it is poetically called "Chinese plum" or "dragon's eye". This comparison is not accidental, because the rounded fruit has a dense, hummocky skin, beneath which is a juicy white flesh and a large oblong bone of dark brown color. The taste of litchi fruit is pleasant and refreshing, with bright sweet and sour notes. It resembles a mixture of tastes of grapes, strawberries and dried apricots.

To enjoy it fully, you need to choose the right fruit. And for this you should carefully study the skin. The quality fruit has an even red or pink color. A brown shade indicates that the fruit is spoiled, and yellow, on the contrary, indicates immaturity. Ripe litchi - elastic to the touch, without a single speck, dents or cracks. If you notice mold traces or darkening in the area of the petiole, such a fruit should not be taken. Finally, a good fruit has a slight sweetish smell resembling the aroma of a rose.

In food eat juicy pulp of lychee, after removing the hard skin and seed. It is best to eat it during the first 24 hours. In pristine form at room temperature, the fruit will last several days. In the refrigerator he will live about two weeks. If you want to keep lychee as long as possible, you need to cut it and freeze it.
